Namejs wishes to say farewell and thank you to one of the most influential and spirited members of the folk dance community, Zigurds Miezitis, who sadly passed away last week. Zigurds Miezitis of Toronto inspired many of our troupe members directly as a talented dance teacher at Garezers Latvian summer high school (he even taught me how to waltz), but his greatest contribution to Namejs came from his amazing talent as a gifted choreographer. He was the mastermind behind many of our most beloved dances such as the powerful crowd favorite, Kurzemnieku Perkondancis. Though he is no longer among us, Zigurts Miezitis has left a truly remarkable gift to Namejs, the dance community, and Latvian culture. For that, we give our heartfelt thanks.
Rest in peace, Zig Mieziti.
